85/113 Fighter Interceptor Squadron Reunion 2006

There will be a reunion in 2006 !!  Our proposal to have a reunion as posted on our web site and as discussed in our telephone conversations resulted in very good responses. At this point, about 30 have responded as coming. A couple "maybes" but we'll try to change that! Include spouses.. about 45 to attend.

When.... October 12, 13 and 14 of 2006 is the date. Arrange your vacations and mark your calendars!

Where.... Wright-Patterson AFB near Dayton, Ohio. Arrangements have been made with the Hope Hotel and Conference Center just off Wright-Patterson AFB(see map). We have blocked 35 rooms at $65 per night, good until 12 September. Fifteen are double beds and 20 are queen size(WAG on our part). Rooms to be reserved and paid for by individuals.  Let them know you are with the 85th in order to get special rate.

Hope Hotel and Conference Center

Reservations: 937.879-2696

Fax: 937-878-8731

The hotel is on the edge of Patterson AFB (but not on the base so pass not necessary). At gate 12A on SR444, turn as if to go on base followed by an immediate right turn to
Hope Hotel. See www.hopehotel.com for map and info.

Activities… Hospitality suite every day opening about noon on Thursday… banquet on Sat nite catered by the center. The banquet dinner, hospitality suite, and other expenses will be incurred. Breakfast will be served every morning including Sunday. We had our pilot training class reunion here in 2003.. dues collected at $125 per but we had other expenses so as a preliminary "guess", We think $75 to $95 will about cover all.

The AF museum is the main attraction. It is located on Wright Field about 3 miles south of the hotel. Haven't yet looked at golf tee times but will if interest is shown.. There are a great many things to do and see in the area so will not over schedule. Anyone interested in a joy ride in a T-6G? Will run about $125 per... we had it for our class reunion and about 20 had a ball. Upside down, high speed passes (.02 Mach).

A few notes concerning arrangements….

1.  Dress code – Informal. Wear a tie at your own risk.

2. If you plan to arrive by air, the Dayton Airport is hard to get to on a direct flight but commuter service is available. Indianapolis is 2 hours west, Columbus 1.5 hours east, and Cincinnati is 1.5 hours south. All will save you money if you plan to rent a car and don’t mind the drive. A rental car is advised in order to get around locally. Sharing should work nicely..

3. A starter agenda follows:

Arrive Thursday, 12 October -- A hospitality suite will be open for signing in, greetings and visiting starting about noon. Drinks, snacks and Hors d’Oeuvres. Dinner…your choice. Packy’s restaurant and sports bar is next door to our hospitality suite.

Friday 13 October -- Late arrivals, tours, shopping, visiting, golf, and other activities. Best day to spend at AF Museum. Dining in the evening at one of our fine restaurants in the area.. group or individual?

Saturday 14 October -- More of the same….we would like to have a "business meeting" in the late afternoon or in conjunction with the evening “banquet” to let us exchange information, take pictures, update rosters, etc. Be prepared to share "war stories" so bring your archives, pictures, etc.

Sunday 15 October -- Farewell brunch. Activities should allow you to depart late morning. Or.stay as long as you can!

4. We would like to know your interest in patches, base ball hats,  coffee mugs, crew shirts, etc. How many still have their "going away" 85th FIS cigarette lighters??

Please.... We would very much like to hear from you even if you can't come to the reunion. Jim and Don will produce an expanded roster to include  pictures and bios following the reunion. Certainly should provoke some memories and be interesting reading so we want you included.

Special thanks to those who have sent postage money and donations. Contributions toward future expenses are accepted!

Several members are online. Be sure to include your e-mail address! And if you haven’t been there, we have a web site with lots of info including this bulletin.  See www.85fis.doncondra.org
